Bell Capital was founded in June 2004. Since then we have taken on over 25 engagements and have advised on over $300 million in capital funding. We currently have two focus areas: (i) advising early stage energy companies on development and exploration drilling funds and (ii) advising foreign capital on structuring and investing in distressed real estate projects in the United States. We both advise management teams on capital transactions and we make investments for long-term appreciation in energy and real estate projects. We prefer investing in private companies although our directors have invested in and joined the boards of public companies.

Bell Capital’s professionals and partners have considerable expertise in the assessment of, and investment in, energy, industrial and real estate companies. Our investment approach can best be described as value investors; however, we structure transaction to fit the stated objectives of key parties.
David C.M. Bell, Managing Director
David is the Managing Director of Bell Capital Corp. David was born and raised in Northern Saskatchewan. David has acted as a director and officer for a both public and private resource companies. David is well versed in the Canadian public markets; he has lectured at the TSX Going Public Company Course and has been a guest speaker at public company securities forums. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Studies (with Distinction) and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Saskatchewan (1996). David practiced corporate commercial law since his call to the Alberta Law Society in June 1997. His clients are primarily oil and gas companies and investment banks. He has also advised on international stock listings, private placements, take-over bids, reorganizations and general corporate matters. David was the founding lawyer for the Calgary office of Davis LLP. Davis LLP is a Vancouver-based international law firm with eight offices including Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Bell founded Bell Capital Corp. in June 2004 to advise full-time on corporate finance mandates. Mr. Bell is available for speaking engagements and resides in Tampa, Florida.
Wen Zhang, Advisor
Mr. Wen Zhang is currently a partner and managing director of the Pacific Alliance Capital Group, a private equity management company affiliated with the Pacific Group based in Hong Kong. Mr. Wen Zhang was the President of Gateway International Investment Company from 2001 through 2004 and was its Vice President from 1997 through 2001. Gateway was a US majority-controlled Investment Company based in Zhejiang Province, China and engaged in venture capital funding of technology companies and development of technology parks and business centers. Mr. Zhang graduated from Zhejiang University with a B.S. in Automation Engineering and attended the Virginia Tech graduate program in Computer Engineering. Mr. Zhang is a Canadian citizen and resides in Hangzhou, China.
Dennis L. Nerland, Advisor
Dennis is a founding partner in Shea Nerland Calnan LLP, a Calgary, Alberta business law firm. Dennis’ practice relates entirely to tax planning matters. He is one of the most sought after tax lawyers in Canada. He is, and has been, a director of many public companies and a trustee of many trusts. Dennis received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Calgary in 1975, his Master of Arts Degree in Economics from Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario in 1976 and his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Calgary in 1979. Mr. Nerland resides in Calgary, Alberta.
